Romney Marsh FM is aimed specifically at the people local to the Romney Marsh and the content of the station reflects this. First launched in September 2007 as a semi-automated internet station, which has been broadcasting online 24 hours a day ever since, the station plays a mixture of music with live and pre-recorded shows.
From 22nd July to 18th August 2008 Romney Marsh FM had its first broadcast on FM. Broadcasting on a RSL (Restricted Service License) RMFM was a major success, with emails from over 20% of the Romney Marsh region, hundreds of phone calls, and many words of support in the local press and on the street!
Since August 2008 volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes to keep the internet station up and running, with live DJ’s every day from 5pm and also launching the new community website.
RMFM had four more stints on FM from the 3rd to 30th January 2009, 1st to 28th June 2009, 9th November to 6th December 2009 and 7th June to 4th July 2010. All of which were a major success' with more listeners and feedback than ever before!
Romney Marsh FM’s ultimate aim is to be able to broadcast on FM full time and it is currently looking for grant funding to help support this cause. Although money is raised through sponsorship and advertising, Community Not For Profit Radio Stations (like Romney Marsh FM) cannot be funded on advertising alone.
Based in Cockreed Lane, New Romney RMFM is always looking for new volunteers. If you want to get behind the mic and become a presenter, or maybe help out behind the scenes producing and recording adverts, jingles and local content you are more than welcome. Anybody interested can contact the station by phoning 01797 362000 or by emailing us via the contact page. |
