Clive is an experienced radio presenter who came to Romney Marsh FM from TGR Sound in Erith, North West Kent, where he presented a "Club Classics Show", but prior to this was a technical operator working on the sports show at RTM Radio, a community radio station which then became Millenium Radio and ended up as part of the Time FM group.
Clive recalls: "I began deejaying (unpaid!) in the late 1970s at the time when DISCO was all the rage!! So you'll appreciate, I have a substantial collection of music from that time!
In those days it was of course good old vynl and about six wooden 12"/LP boxes to every gig!! Back then we had "Soul Patrols" with the funky clothes to go with it and I used to hang out at "Flicks" in Dartford, the "Zoom Zoom" in Sidcup, "Hickorys" at Swanley, with regular coach trips to Stage 3, Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey, and some huge club at Watford or going down to various "straight" clubs in Brighton - one night me and a mate even slept on our camp beds in an open field just outside of Brighton as it was warm enough to do so!!! - You daren't do it now, you'll probably 'wake up dead' if you did!!
Musically it was a different time then, people played instruments for real and harmonized in their singing more".
On my Monday night "Soul Show", 7-9pm, I play tunes from this era (alongside tunes from the 80s, 90s and 2000s), so if you fancy a "blast from the past" drop me a line in advance:
clive@romneymarsh.fm or whilst I'm on air: studio@romneymarsh.fm, text: 079 19 89 55 66 and I'll try and dig it out for you.
During my time on Romney Marsh FM I have also presented an "Early Weekend Show" and the "Pop Show" on Fridays, plus a "Midweek Break Show" on Wednesdays, all during the daytime.
Besides my deejaying, radio presenting and tech opping I also have a background as a theatre sound technician, including outdoor production and am a fully qualified Professional-grade tennis coach!. You can read more about me at: http://web.mac.com/clive.ashford
I look forward to your company real soon! |
