The 1950s were an exciting time for me, not least because I discovered football, music, roller-skating and girls, but not necessarily in that order! I was living in Rolfe Lane, New Romney and looking back, the Fifties seemed to go by in a flash I left school and started work.
In 1952, some friends and I were offered a small building in Littlestone and we formed a Youth Club, meeting once a week. I had a wind-up gramophone and a small collection of 78 records and so I suppose I was the DJ for the evenings. The very first 78 that I bought was I Believe and Your Cheating Heart by Frankie Laine.
You can listen to some of my favourite music from the 1950s on my show on Romney Marsh FM at 9 p.m. on Saturdays nights. |
